“On my first field trip through the city of Bochum we made a stop at the statue “Kuhhirtendenkmal”. I didn’t know much about it, but our lecturer explained the meaning of this statue. The “Kuhhirtendenkmal” is a symbol for the old Ruhr area. Before the industrialisation there were no shepherds anymore, and old inhabitants wanted something to visualise how Bochum and the whole Ruhr area were before there was industry, so the city of Bochum built the “Kuhhirtendenkmal” is important to me because its existence and meaning (progress) remind me of my studies at Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
