“My three submissions were taken in Bochum, Essen, and Hattingen. All three photos were taken before the Covid-19 pandemic so they all recalled beautiful memories. Thank you for this contest.”

“The Deutsche Bergbau-Museum is the first museum I visited in the Ruhr area. I only knew that the Ruhr area is an industrial area from our text book in middle school but I did not know how the area really looked like and how it worked. This museum gave me the first real impression of what the Ruhr area is and how the industry area might looked like. It was really impressive and I would recommend everyone to visit!”

“This photo was taken in Essen in winter so the light is not that great. The sculpture was created by Hermann Volz in 1898 and the house rider is Wilhelm I. I was impressed by the sculpture because of the combination of the house rider and modern technology.”

“It was a coincidence to take this photo. I went to Hattingen to visit the church, but I just suddenly noticed this “ironman” nearby. It was created by Zbigniew Fraczkiewicz. There are more “ironman” in Hattingen and they seem to have become the symbol of Hattingen. At first, these objects are controversial because of their exposed sexual organ, but what impresses me is its iron-colour and its facial expression.”
