“This particularly piece is really important for me because it was only in October that I got into TU Dortmund and came here from Ukraine – my homeland that is now on fire under russian rockets, bombs, and soldiers.
I never knew that after the terrible night of February 24 I would no longer be able to return to my native peaceful city of Dnipro, which has been a reliable border and shield in eastern Ukraine since 2014, that I would be afraid to see my loved ones in Germany not as tourists but as refugees, that my dad would volunteer to be a soldier in the Ukrainian army and fight so that my sister, mom and everyone in the country could see a peaceful sky.
Now I can use my photos and my actions to tell the world what's going on, use my voice to speak up and call on people to help and support our path to freedom and the future of all Europe.
This picture shows gratitude for the solidarity with my people, it is visible even in the smallest details and helps me not to give up and move on.”
